Guardian Optical Technologies recently raised $3.1M for its in-car computer vision sensor. The company, based in Tel Aviv, Israel, uses camera technology to detect motion as small as a micrometer. Its goal is an in-car platform that improves passenger safety. The sensor can record high-resolution videos and three-dimensional depth maps simultaneously, making it well-suited for monitoring young children in the backseats of cars. Using machine learning algorithms, the system can estimate the size of each passenger, allowing it to, for example, to adjust the force of an airbag’s deployment in the event of a collision. The startup focused on keeping costs low. They expect their solution to eliminate the need for a variety of other sensors, therefore reducing the overall costs.
