Amazon developed a new iPhone app that uses computer vision to identify and replace screws and other parts. Until recently, if you needed to replace a screw, nut or bolt, you’d take a trip to the hardware store. With Amazon’s new app, “Part Finder” you can now use your phone’s camera to identify hundreds of types of screws, nuts, bolts, washers and other fasteners. Once identified, a part can be ordered from Amazon directly through the app. Part Finder is another win for Amazon against the brick-and-mortar world order. To use the feature, open the Amazon app and then select the camera. From there, a screw icon indicates the Part Finder feature. You need to place the part in question next to a penny (to give the app scale). The app will then identify the part and offer options like head or driver type.
